The voice of manufacturers
To advance and defend the interests of BC manufacturers
Manufacturing BC invites BC Manufacturers to join a webinar to learn about the
Ethical Recruitment for Safe and Regular Labour Migration in Canada and Mexico.
The Initiative
Manufacturing BC spearheaded this initiative as an outcome of the BC Apparel Workforce Strategy project. The goal was to establish an immigration pilot to help address skills shortages in manufacturing. The earlier round was focused on the apparel industry and food processing. Now that we are past the pains of Covid, the IOM and IRCC (CIC) are moving the project forward. Good news is that additional priority sectors of the economy have been included, several of which fall within manufacturing.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Migration Agency, in collaboration with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC),
is undertaking a pilot project known as the “Ethical Recruitment for Safe and Regular Labour Migration in Canada and Mexico”. The main goal of this pilot is to implement ethical recruitment standards in temporary labour migration to connect Canada’s employer workforce demand with workers in Mexico in a way that supports safe and orderly migration.

The Alliance's mission is to promote dialogue and encourage collaboration and joint action amongst a variety of industry stakeholders to ensure a strong and competitive manufacturing sector in BC.
The goal is to ensure all British Columbians continue to benefit from the economic growth, high-value outputs and high-paying jobs found across all types of manufacturing in the province.
Issues & Policy Priorites
Manufacturers generally do what they do under the radar, focusing on getting a quality job done without pomp or circumstance. Unfortunately, many of the great stories go untold, leaving policy makers and the general public with the wrong impression of a vibrant and strong piece of our economy. To say that manufacturing is under recognized and unappreciated is an understatement.
